A couple of weeks ago John and I planned to go up to the Hunter Vally for a few days away, just to get out of Sydney and relax, plus it of course was my birthday. We decided to go on the Sunday to save money on accommodation as its always more expensive to go over the weekend. Sunday arrived and we were all packed ready to hit the road.
Only a couple hours from Sydney and we arrived at the beautiful Hunter Vally, I had been a few times before for hens weekends and spa weekends with the girls but never with John. John had never been, so was great to experience it just the two of us. We had booked Cypress Lakes Resort for our stay, as it was a central location in the Hunter. What I love about the Hunter Valley is its tranquility! Full of wildlife and such a different world from the city life. All the locals are so friendly.
We decided to have dinner at the restaurant at the resort the first night, after going for a walk around the resort and checking it out. It has three swimming pools, tennis courts a gym and of course the golf course. The resort is huge, so many villas, you need to drive to get around the whole place.
Dinner was disappointing our entree was horrible was suppose to be Oysters Kilpatrick but they tasted like they had some BBQ sauce on them instead, I had to go get my own teaspoons so we could eat them as the waiter I had asked seem to forget me, well that was the tone for our whole dinner actually, took 40min for us to get served for our mains and there was like 10 people in the whole restaurant. I will say our mains were really nice once we received them, but we would not be eating there again.
One of the reasons I picked the Hunter Valley was I wanted to go to the Hunter Valley Gardens, I have never been there and have wanted to check it out for a number of years. So we left the resort and headed to the Hunter Valley Village to grab a bite to eat before we went.
A cute little village with some cute shops like you have stepped back a couple of centuries in time.
After a bite to eat we headed over to the Hunter Valley Gardens. I would hate to have to be the gardener here, it was massive, even the entrance was gorgeous.
Loved the Hunter Valley Gardens, so peaceful and so much to see, I highly recommend checking them out if you are visiting the Hunter Valley, entry price was $25 per person. My favourite was the chinese gardens, but none of our photos turned out that well. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, cause there is a lot of walking.
That night we went out to eat to Harringon’s Irish Pub, what a great pub. It had so much to look at, awesome service and the food was not expensive. Had an awesome fireplace to keep you nice and warm, we even played a couple games of pool after our meal.
We headed back to Cypress Lakes Resort to our villa for the night! I have to say very cute villa’s, we just stayed in the standard deluxe villa, besides the tap in our kitchenette being broken and the spa bath was dirty, it was nice. Thou the king size bed had springs that dug into your back, so was hard to get a good nights sleep!
Stay tuned for Hunter Valley Weekend Away Part 2, my birthday surprise!
