I have always wanted to do the Color Run so when it was coming to Sydney I thought what a great chance to have a go and have some fun. So I registered for both John and I to do the run. It was in Summer so already expected to be hot and I booked us in for the afternoon session, so we didn’t have to get up with the birds to make the morning session.
WHAT IS THE COLOR RUN™?
The Color Run, also known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet, is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness and individuality. Now the single largest event series in the world, The Color Run has exploded since their debut event. They have more than tripled their growth, hosting more than 300 events in 50+ countries in 2014.
The Sydney Color Run, was located out at Homebush, where they held the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Which is a bit of a trek for us from the Northern Beaches, we had to get a bus, and then walk to the train station, then get two trains to get to Olympic Park.
When we arrived we were starving, so we grabbed a quick bite to eat before the race started. Then we put in our bibs and headed the starting line.
Now it was the middle of summer and at Homebush where there is concrete everywhere! The temperature was already in the mid 30’s so was hot before we even started. So my idea of actually running the whole 5 km was not going to happen in the heat. Plus was high humidity so hard to breath especially with all the colour flying around! I remember checking the temp at one stage and it was 38 degrees (HOT)
So many people were there from families to teenagers to adults, all ages and when you get to the colour sections it would be packed with everyone playing around in the colour and slowing down the rest of the pack, you would have to make sure that you didn’t trip over anyone! Was a fun experience and my first fun run with John so that was good, as I had done all my other runs on my own.
I had to stop a couple of time to just try and cool down I was feeling the heat and at one stage thought I was going to collapse. Pouring water over our heads to try and cool us down. John would find some shade for me to sit down for 5 minutes and try and breathe.
After the run they have some bands playing on a stage and everyone dancing and listening, they were still throwing colour from the stage, I think if you ended up finishing the color run and still have a white shirt there is something wrong!
So end of the day was fun and colourful, I wouldn’t want to do it again in that heat but would love to do it again maybe different venue and time of the year, as I know they do have a couple a year.
The end result below, I had colour in my hair for a week afterwards, I had washed it a number of times!
Have you done the colour run before? Any other fun runs you loved doing, let us know?
