Lamb Shanks with Garlic and Herbs in the Slow Cooker

I love cooking this meal and its really easy to prepare, one of my favourite’s so wanted to share it with you.

Shopping List:

  • Lamb Shanks
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Brown Onion
  • Fresh green beans
  • Mushrooms
  • Grape Tomatoes
  • Potatoes
  • Tin of Tomatoes
  • Masterfoods Garlic Hear Lamb Shank Recipe Base 175g
  • Tomato Paste
  • Milk
  • Margarine/butter


I chop everything up first so its all done, Celery, Carrots, Beans, Onion and Mushrooms. Ofcourse you can add any extra veggies you may want to put in.

Place the frypan onto the stove and heat it up at a medium to high heat.

Put a tablespoon of oil (I use olive oil).

Place your Lamb Shanks in the frypan to brown. I have a cover I place over so the oil doesn’t spit everywhere.



I usually spray canola spray in my slow cooker before I place anything in there, I find its heaps easier to clean afterwards.

I place the carrots, celery, onion into my slow cooker.


Once the Lamb Shanks have browned, I then place them on top of the veggies.

I mix up the packet mix and the tomato paste in a jug


I then pour the Can of Tomatoes over the Lamb Shanks


Then pour the packet mix and tomato paste that I had already mixed over the top


I then give it a good stir so the sauce is distributed. Turn on High for 4 hours or Low for 8 hrs. (I always do the High for 4 Hours)

With the beans, mushrooms I leave these aside till the final hour of cooking and then place them in the slow cooker


In the last 30 min, I usually put some grape or cherry tomatoes in the slow cooker.


Also don’t forget to prepare some mash potato to have on the side:

  • Peel Potatoes
  • Cut into small halves
  • Boil till tender
  • Strain, add Butter and milk and salt
  • Mash till nice and fluffy


Then its time to serve up
